This is the start of our first blog post for the Carlisle House Bed & Breakfast. Maybe we should start by introducing ourselves! I am Alan Duxbury, an English ex-pat living in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, USA. My wife Mary is a native of Carlisle, and along with our much-valued housekeeper Lorrie, we run the Carlisle House Bed & Breakfast.
We’ve been innkeepers now for a little over four years, and we are having a great time meeting all sorts of wonderful and interesting guests. In this time, we have won the “Best of Carlisle” award four times, and are currently rated the Number 1 B&B in PA by the reviewers of TripAdvisor.com.
This can of course change, but we are doing our very best to stay up there!
One of the great things about Carlisle is the history of the city. It was founded in 1751 and was named for Carlisle, England by the Pitts. This year, 2008, sees the 250th Anniversary of the French & Indian Wars and the Forbes Expedition to remove Fort Duquesne from French control. You can find out all about the history and the celebrations at HistoricCarlisle.com.
Of course there are many other reasons for visiting Carlisle, we are the home of two of the top 50 fly-fishing streams in the world! These are the Yellow Breeches and the Letort Spring Run, and we receive guests from all over the world to fish these waters.
Please feel free to add comments, ask questions, and of course to visit our website at TheCarlisleHouse.com. Thank you for reading our first blog post!
We’ll chat again soon!
